The Peterborough and District Labour Council sponsored a 'Meet and Greet' event for the NDP on Tuesday, August 19 in the Millennium Park from 6:30 to 8 pm. About 100 people, many from the Peterborough NDP Fundraising Otonabee River boat cruise, joined us at the boat house near the Millennium Place entrance at the corner of King and Water Streets to meet notable people from the New Democratic Party and the labour movement. Canadian NDP Leader Jack Layton, Ontario NDP Leader Howard Hampton, local NDP candidate Dave Nickle and Ontario Federation of Labour President Wayne Samuelson were there to greet and speak with Peterborough's citizens. Sandwiches, veggies, fruit and punch were served. Thanks go to Adele Franklin, Betty Cree, Margot Marshall and Sherry-Lynn McMahon for arranging the food and providing the 'Labour Millennium Sculpture' t-shirts.
