Labour's Day of Caring highlights the formal agreement between United Way Canada-Centraide and the Canadian Labour Congress. In communities across the country union members select a local community need and give their time and resources to address it.
Here in Peterborough city and county, Peterborough and District Labour Council in collaboration with United Way of Peterborough and District raised awareness and funds for the Dental Treatment Assistance Fund administered by the Peterborough County and City Health Unit. The fund provides for emergency dental care for low wage, precariously employed workers and seniors on modest fixed incomes who lack access to dental benefits.
Members of ETFO, CAW, OPSEU, CEP and OSSTF took up the call and demonstrated their commitment to our community and to all working people by raising an amazing $1,007.25 in seven short hours on June 14, 2013.

Melt the freeze! Raise the minimum wage to $14!

Peterborough Labour was front and centre at MPP Jeff Leal's office demanding an immediate increase to minimum wage. Working people at the lowest end of the income spectrum need a living wage that allows them to meet basic needs and to have a life of dignity.
